CMAP Weekly Update, 9-1-2017

Alternative Futures campaign concludes

In October, CMAP will publish the ON TO 2050 Preview Report, with an appendix summarizing results of the engagement, which reached more than 30,000 people who attended events (including 127 workshops and five larger forums), over 48,000 who interacted with the kiosks, and more than 8,000 who visited the plan's web pages (including surveys and videos). This phase is wrapping up today with one final workshop, hosted by Access Living.

Infill and TOD

CMAP's latest snapshot report explores how growth since 2000 has altered our region's opportunities for Infill and TOD (transit oriented development). ON TO 2050 will build on GO TO 2040's recommendation to focus new development where infrastructure -- particularly transit -- already exists. And like its predecessor, the new plan will also acknowledge that not all of the region's new development can or should be infill, as described in our very recent Lands in Transition strategy paper.

CMAP happenings

Public comment for CMAQ, TAP-L, and TIP through September 4

CMAP has released the proposed FFY 2018-22 Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement (CMAQ) program and FFY 2018-20 Transportation Alternatives Program-Local (TAP-L) for public review. Comments on the program of projects may be submitted to CMAP by mail, email, or phone (312-454-0400).

The CMAP Transportation Committee recently released a conformity analysis of GO TO 2040 and the FFY 2014-19 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). Please review the cover memo and list of conformity amendments. Comments may be submitted to CMAP by mail, email, or phone (312-454-0400).

Transit Ridership Growth Study
Data from the past few years indicate that the region is not on track to reach the transit ridership goals set forth by GO TO 2040. CMAP's new Transit Ridership Growth Study evaluates what would need to occur to reach these ridership goals, including transit capital investments and policy changes related to parking, roadway pricing, and land use. For example, increasing the number of jobs located near transit would attract a relatively high number of new transit riders compared with other potential interventions.

Fox River Corridor Plan public meeting
A public meeting for the Fox River Corridor Plan will be held on Thursday, September 21, at Lake Barrington Village Hall (23860 N. Old Barrington Rd., Barrington), from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. This project is supported by CMAP's Local Technical Assistance program. Contact Kate Evasic (kevasic@cmap.illinois.gov or 312-386-8782) with questions.

My Daily Travel
In August, CMAP began a pilot study for the My Daily Travel survey, which will collect information about how and when residents get around the region. We will test the survey with about 600 households; between March 2018 and May 2019, the broader survey will collect information from approximately 12,000 households. The data will help build a complete picture of local and regional transportation needs, so decision makers can effectively recommend where to make improvements.

ON TO 2050 outreach
Thank you to Round Lake Area Exchange Club, the Kendall County Health Department, and Access Living for hosting ON TO 2050 Alternative Futures workshops this week, concluding a busy season of public engagement for development of the ON TO 2050 regional plan. For continuing discussion with CMAP about the ON TO 2050 plan, contact Jane Grover (312-386-8802 or jgrover@cmap.illinois.gov).
