Specific Projects:
Skokie Valley Trail Feasability Study
Wilmette, Illinois
Beginning date: 2006
Ending date: 2008

Description of project:
The Active Transportation Alliance was selected to create a Skokie Valley Trail feasibility plan for the city of Wilmette to potentially create a multi-use trail along a historic rail line, completing a gap in the regional trail network. ATA began by documenting existing conditions and the preliminary trail corridor. Next, ATA coordinated and conducted two public meetings and consolidated ownership information and easement along the area. ATA used this information to create a preliminary feasibility study and then performed grant writing assistance. Deliverables included a comprehensive base of background information, infrastructure assessment, and recommendations from which the corridor’s potential can be realized. This report demonstrated Skokie Valley Trail is feasible and will provide residents with increased opportunities for non-motorized transportation and recreation in addition to providing access to community and natural resources.
