Amtrak has rolled out a policy to allow  standard, full-size bicycles to be taken onboard and stored in bicycle racks on select trains, including trains traveling from Chicago to Milwaukee and from Chicago to Grand Rapids. Amtrak offers both (self-service) carry-on bicycle service and train-side checked bicycle service. On self-service trains, bicycles must be stored in designated racks within the body of special cars. Trains have a limited number of spots available and some require a reservation while others do not.  For train-side checked bicycle service, reservations are required.  Fees for bicycles range from free to twenty dollars. On self-service carry-on trains with unreserved carry-on bicycle service, racks are available at a first-come, first-serve basis. When the racks are full, bikes are no longer accepted onboard.
