The Transportation Research Board's Transit Cooperative Research Program has published the synthesis report, "Better On-Street Bus Stops" which explores major issues and successful approaches for the design and operation of roadside bus stops.  The report addresses the subject both from the transit agency's perspective and from the customer's perspective. It documents the current state of the practice through a survey of 60 transit agencies and six case examples that provide details on challenges and solutions in bus stop design and location, along with lessoned learned, from the following agencies:

  • Austin, Texas: Capital Metro
  • Columbus, Ohio: Central Ohio Transit Authority
  • New York, New York: MTA–New York City Transit
  • Portland, Oregon: TriMet
  • San Francisco, California: Golden Gate Transit
