City of Chicago pilots all-way pedestrian crossing
The City of Chicago and the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) launched a pilot of an "all-way" pedestrian crossing (a.k.a. "pedestrian scramble" or "Barnes' Dance") earlier this month at the downtown intersection of State Street and Jackson Boulevard. The crossing allows pedestrians to cross to/from any corner – including walking diagonally across the intersection – during a traffic signal phase that stops all vehicular traffic.
