CMAP Weekly Update, 12-20-13

First Off...

Policy Updates. A new post on the CMAP website describes the structure of several state and local transportation funding programs in Illinois.  This is the first in a series of Policy Updates on state transportation revenue sharing with local governments.  While CMAP's past research on performance-based funding has focused on the project selection process, the overarching governance and funding of our transportation system also require analysis.

More Updates.  The new CMAP site has an overall Updates section with Policy, Weekly, and Legislative updates, among others that you can sort by topic or search.  You can also create and save your own custom feed that includes as many or as few topics as you like.  For example, this one will provide freight updates.

Other News and Announcements

LTA updates. Among recent highlights from CMAP's Local Technical Assistance program:

CMAP media tip sheet. CMAP's latest tip sheet includes information on a new Regional Freight Leadership Task Force, proposed national pilot program for funding transportation, CMAP's relaunched website, and more.

BRT newsletter. A CTA newsletter features information on recent public meetings on the Ashland Bus Rapid Transit Environmental Analysis, early designs for Central Loop BRT station, and more.

EI2 in the news.  The Department of Energy Better Buildings Neighborhood View newsletter highlighted Energy Impact Illinois "house parties" that encouraged attendees to improve the energy efficiency of their homes.

CMAP Blogs

Soles and Spokes. A recent report summarizes a "before-after" evaluation of the safety, comfort, and convenience for cyclists and other roadway users at three locations in the District of Columbia, where innovative bicycle facilities had been installed. We also described two recent studies looking at the impacts of bike lanes on nearby retail activity.  Here's a custom feed of CMAP updates on walking and bicycling.
