CMAP Weekly Update, 6-13-14
CMAP meeting recap. The Board met on Wednesday, and the MPO Policy Committee met on Thursday, each discussing and approving the FY 2015 Unified Work Program and Transportation Reauthorization Principles, among other items. They also heard a presentation from Regional Freight Leadership Task Force chairman Mike Gorman and staff on the process and recommendations of the final task force report. Other presentations included the staff's State Legislative Update and the draft GO TO 2040 plan update that is being released for public comment today (see following item). The Board also approved the FY 2015 Work Plan and Budget. Prior to the Board meeting, the Regional Coordinating Committee met and heard presentations on the O'Hare Subregional Freight-Manufacturing Drill-Down Report, a preview of a forthcoming microsite on economic indicators, and the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program (CMAQ) process review. The Board will not meet in July and is on call for August. The next MPO Policy Committee meeting is a joint one with the CMAP Board at 9:30 a.m. on October 8, 2014.
Draft GO TO 2040 plan update and TIP public comment period. The draft GO TO 2040 plan update and the draft federal fiscal year 2014-19 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) document and list of proposed projects have been released for public comment through August 1, 2014. Residents can submit feedback on-line, and CMAP will hold a series of open houses throughout the region during the comment period. Each event will feature plan update materials and the draft FFY 2014-19 TIP for review and comment, with CMAP staff on hand to answer questions. A flyer with meeting details is available in English and Spanish.
Freight Task Force report. As mentioned above, the CMAP Regional Freight Leadership Task Force report recommends increased planning, funding, and programming to support metropolitan Chicago's multimodal system. The CMAP Board convened this group in June 2013 to build on GO TO 2040 recommendations for enhancing the freight system in northeastern Illinois. I spoke to the Chicago Tribune about it.
Policy Updates. The final Policy Update in our series on the potential for increased energy efficiency in the region's manufacturing sector discusses how policy changes can improve conservation. Prior posts focused on consumption patterns and uptake of energy efficiency improvements and how infrastructure, regulations, and market changes may affect energy consumption.
