No Board meeting in July. Note that this month's CMAP Board meeting has been cancelled. For these and other meetings, please consult our events calendar to confirm dates and times.
Policy Updates. See our policy blog for new posts about FY 2014 federal transportation appropriations and the new approach taken by Cook County to its draft Annual Action Plan, an important resource for obtaining federal housing dollars. We also described Illinois Innovation Index analysis of the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) workforce in our region and state.

LTA program. Among recent highlights from CMAP's Local Technical Assistance program:
- The Trib covered the Village of Orland Park's new water conservation code.
- The Daily Herald described the Village of Round Lake Heights comprehensive plan open house on July 13 from noon to 4:00 p.m. at the annual Village Festival
- The Village of Westchester comprehensive plan open house will be held on July 16 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Westchester Community Church, 1840 Westchester Blvd.
- The Village of Richton Park will hold a planning meeting on July 18 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Richton Park Community Center (4455 Sauk Trail Road).

Save the Date: Housing event. "New Partnerships and Novel Plans: Housing Solutions for People with Disabilities" will be held on Monday, September 9, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (with reception to follow) at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Shaun Donovan is the invited speaker at this event sponsored by The Chicago Community Trust in partnership with the Pierce Family Foundation, The Coleman Foundation, the CCT Persons with Disabilities Fund, and the Supportive Housing Providers Association. Performance-based funding. GO TO 2040 recommends that transportation funding decisions be based on transparent evaluation criteria, and calls on the region's transportation stakeholders to develop and utilize the necessary performance measures. A new microsite describes how "performance-based funding" can improve transparency and decision making. Our Policy Updates blog provides an overview of the microsite, including its compendium of related CMAP research and analysis.
Congestion Pricing. Join the growing list of stakeholders in support of CMAP's campaign advocating the implementation of express toll lanes to manage traffic effectively on five GO TO 2040 expressway projects.
Building One America summit. Building One America will hold a National Summit July 18-19 in Washington D.C. on inclusive suburbs and sustainable regions with local elected officials, policy experts, and leadership from the White House and Congress. I will be speaking at the event to share best practices learned from our region's GO TO 2040 implementation activities. State bike plan. The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking public input on its Illinois Bicycle Transportation Plan via a series of public meetings and webinar -- RSVP at www.surveymonkey.com/s/ILBikePlanRSVP.
EI2 rebates. Energy Impact Illinois (EI2) is offering rebates up to $1,750 (an estimated 70-percent cost savings) for upgrades you can make to improve the comfort of your home. FLIP applications. Applications are still available for next year's Future Leaders in Planning (FLIP) program. Students who will be sophomores, juniors, or seniors in the 2013-14 school year are eligible. The final deadline for applications is September 23.
