The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced its 2013-14 Safe Routes to School program funding cycle.  Applications will be accepted from October 31, 2013 to January 31, 2014.  It is anticipated that a total of approximately $6 million will be available statewide.  The Illinois SRTS program is a reimbursement program,  and projects are funded with 80 percent federal (Transportation Alternatives program) funds and a 20 percent local match.  Both infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects (encouragement, education, enforcement) are eligible, with different applications for each.  School travel plans are not required as part of the application.  Infrastructure projects are capped at $200,000 and non-infrastructure projects are capped at $30,000, both of which include the 20 percent local match.
