The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG), with the assistance of San Diego State University's Active Transportation Research, installed automated bike counters throughout San Diego County in late 2012. According to Bike San Diego, data obtained from the counters for 10-day periods in 2012, 2013, and 2014 indicate that bicycle traffic along two major corridors in San Diego's Uptown neighborhood rose by an average of 346 percent.  The data further indicates that the largest increase occurred in 2014, after buffered bike lanes were installed, lending credence to the adage, "build it and they will come."
