In December 2016, U.S. DOT issued a Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Coordination rule that would have significant impacts on metropolitan Chicago and neighboring regions.  The following is CMAP's official reaction to legislative action that would repeal the rule.

 

Statement from Joseph C. Szabo, CMAP Executive Director, on repeal of MPO consolidation ruling

"We are grateful to Senator Duckworth, Representative Lipinski and the Illinois congressional delegation for their bi-partisan leadership on passage of S.496 to repeal a recent U.S. DOT ruling on 'Metropolitan Planning Organization Coordination and Planning Area Reform.' If not repealed, the ruling would significantly affect transportation planning efforts in our region and those of our neighboring regions in southeast Wisconsin and northwest Indiana.  The bill now moves to the President where, once signed, it would help ensure the integrity of the regional planning process."
