The cities of Seattle and Boston are both pursuing lowering speed limits city-wide.  The Seattle Times reports that the city is considering reducing the default speed limit on arterials to 25 mph and 20 mph on local, neighborhood streets in order to reduce traffic injuries.  Boston has proposed lowering the default speed limit on all streets to 25 mph "to make the city safer for people of all ages and abilities who are walking, driving, and bicycling on our streets." Both cities are working towards achieving their Vision Zero goals of bringing the number of traffic deaths and serious injuries to zero by 2030.
