Autocar described camera-based technology that Volvo has developed for its buses, which will detect and help prevent collisions. The system's cameras are mounted on a vehicle's exterior with the objective of detecting and alerting the bus driver to potential hazards, including nearby pedestrians and cyclists. The firm has also developed and plans to deploy a synthetic background noise for its electric buses in order to help pedestrians and bicyclists detect their presence and approach. The technology will be rolled out in 2017 on European buses.
