CMAP is collaborating with BRicK Partners, the Metropolitan Planning Council, the Illinois Housing Development Authority, and nine other housing authorities in the region to encourage a diverse housing supply in areas of opportunity and facilitate a dialog between affordable housing developers and local governments. By allowing multiple housing authorities to pool their resources, the RHI is a mechanism through which a suburban housing development can receive subsidies even if the local housing authority lacks resources. GO TO 2040 calls for increasing the range of housing options, particularly options that promote housing affordability in areas near transit, and the coordination of resources can help guide development decisions.  The innovative structure of RHI has led to the development of more than 400 apartments in 28 developments in 19 different communities around the region.  Through RHI, developers can help finance projects with rental assistance vouchers and apply on a rolling basis.
