Alternative Futures: Innovative Transportation
As CMAP features a new Alternative Future each month through August, yesterday we began to explore Innovative Transportation
. Watch a brief video
with animations that show the benefits -- and some potential undesired effects -- of technological changes in how people and goods get around the region.
CREATE: The region's #1 freight priority
In a letter
to Crain's Chicago Business, CMAP executive director Joe Szabo states: "The national and regional importance of CREATE
is too important for us to prematurely and preemptively shift the spotlight to other projects like the Great Lakes Basin Transportation proposal." The letter was prompted by recent speculation about projects that would bypass rather than address freight congestion in our region.
Des Plaines Comprehensive Plan
The City of Des Plaines and CMAP's Local Technical Assistance program need your help in developing the next Comprehensive Plan
that will set forth the vision, goals, and objectives of the City over the next 10 years. Please take a survey
to share your thoughts. Also, attend an open house at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28, at the Des Plaines Public Library (1501 Ellinwood Ave., Des Plaines).

Last week to apply for FLIP
Please encourage high schoolers to apply in writing
by Friday, June 9, for CMAP's Future Leaders in Planning summer program. As a behind-the-scenes video
shows, they will spend a fun-filled week of enrichment with fellow students helping to shape their region's future.

Growing inclusively as a region
Among a few over-arching principles that will inform recommendations of the ON TO 2050 plan, Inclusive Growth addresses the need for all our communities to participate in and contribute to the region's prosperity. Next month CMAP will issue a strategy paper on the topic, which is also central to an Alternative Futures forum
in Homewood on July 19. Read the CityLab article
about a recent Brookings Institution
report, which reinforces how regions that grow inclusively have more sustainable prosperity overall.
CMAQ in the news
An article in Logistics Management
described a local firm's efforts to expand its last-mile network by doubling a market-delivery facility's capacity in Bolingbrook. Read more about our region's importance to the national freight system in CMAP's Freight Snapshot

IDOT regional plan priorities
