The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) is located in Suite 800 of Willis (formerly Sears) Tower, 233 South Wacker Drive, Chicago, IL 60606. Phone: 312-454-0400. Fax: 312-454-0411. Click here for directions to Willis Tower.
CMAP is the official regional planning organization for the northeastern Illinois counties of Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will. CMAP developed and now guides the implementation of GO TO 2040, metropolitan Chicago's first comprehensive regional plan in more than 100 years. To address anticipated population growth of more than 2 million new residents, GO TO 2040 establishes coordinated strategies that help the region's 284 communities address transportation, housing, economic development, open space, the environment, and other quality-of-life issues.
The CMAP Board is chaired by Gerald Bennett, mayor of Palos Hills. Its membership (click for a list or map of current Board members) reflects the regional consensus that led to creation of CMAP, featuring balanced representation from across the counties of Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will. (The CMAP planning area also includes Aux Sable Township in Grundy County). CMAP operates under authorizing legislation known as Public Act 095-0677. Also see the agency's current by-laws.
Executive director Randall S. Blankenhorn leads the CMAP staff, who have diverse capabilities in comprehensive planning, data research and analysis, and many related disciplines. View current and past CMAP work plans and annual reports.
CMAP has committees at the policy, advisory, coordinating, and working levels that play integral roles in the agency's planning processes (click here for a graphic showing CMAP's committee structure).
CMAP is the recent recipient of awards from the American Planning Association, Transportation Research Board, and more.
