Data

CMAP's many data-driven projects provide partners with vetted and trustworthy information. Our data projects are often the result of years of research and collaboration with federal, state, and local sources.

Community Data Snapshots. These summarize demographics, housing, employment, transportation habits, retail sales, and land use in northeastern Illinois' 7 counties, 284 municipalities, and 77 Chicago neighborhoods.

Community cohorts. CMAP determines the level of local capacity and technical assistance needed for communities in the region by using the Community Cohort Evaluation Tool. This tool assigns community cohorts throughout the region based on four factors: population, income, tax base per capita, and percent of population located in an economically disconnected or disinvested area. The community cohorts are assigned every April using this tool and the most current data available. View the current list of community cohorts.

Job Quality and Access Tool. The Job Quality and Access Tool provides analysis on employment trends, industry clusters, the quality of jobs, and the accessibility of jobs (such as the level of education required). Communities can use this tool to understand the advantages of their local labor market, identify areas that need assistance, and develop action plans to strengthen industries that support shared prosperity.

Land use data. Updated every five years, CMAP's Land Use Inventory supports regional planning and policy evaluations as well as local technical assistance activities. CMAP has also established a procedure for evaluating potential Developments of Regional Importance. A partnership with Chicago Wilderness enhances information on "green infrastructure" — the region's core conservation lands.

Regional greenhouse gas emissions inventory. The greenhouse gas emissions inventory provides a summary of greenhouse gas emissions for the region. CMAP also shares local emissions summaries for the 7 counties, 284 municipalities, and 77 Chicago neighborhoods.

Regional indicators. ON TO 2050 includes a set of regional indicators that serve as benchmarks for monitoring progress of plan implementation. CMAP also tracks additional indicators that provide insight into the state of the region's economy and transportation infrastructure.

Transportation data. CMAP prepares future traffic projections, which are supported by a substantial regional travel demand modeling system and a large-scale travel survey. The agency also monitors, analyzes, and provides information on transportation system performance.
