Freight Performance Data

Animations of Truck Travel Speeds, I-90, April - October 2011, by Milep0st and Time of Day

The following videos show truck travel speeds by milepost, time of day, and day of week on the Kennedy Expressway, Dan Ryan Expressway, Chicago Skyway, and part of the Jane Addams Expressway. The data was collected by the American Transportation Research Institute using on-board instruments on trucks traveling on I-90 in Illinois, and was analyzed by CMAP to prepare the following animated maps:

- Sundays (avi video, 56 MB)
- Mondays (avi video, 56 MB)
- Tuesdays - Thursdays (avi video, 57 MB)
- Fridays (avi video, 61 MB)
- Saturdays (avi video, 56 MB)

Comparing the videos shows the variability in travel speed by the day of the week. Travel speeds for trucks on I-90 are the slowest on Friday afternoons.

Passenger Transit Service On-Time Performance

Much of the Amtrak and commuter rail passenger service in the region (with the notable exception of Metra's south suburban Electric services) are on shared rails with the freight system, resulting in conflicts and delays for both the freight and passenger rail systems. The charts below show passenger rail on-time performance by service over the past several years.
