Freight Snapshot: Freight Volumes for the Water and Air Freight Systems
The folllowing tables summarize estimated 2007 and forecast 2040 freight volumes for the regional water and air freight systems. The source for much of this information is the Transearch database, which estimates national commodity flows based on sample data, rather than comprehensive physical counts. Where possible, we have validated Transearch 2007 estimates with alternative sources of data, including ground data, alternative counts, and previous estimates.
Water and Air Freight Volumes: 2007 estimates and 2040 forecasts
Background: The estimates of air and water freight below in the 7-county CMAP region and the broader CMAP travel demand study area (extending to as far as LaPorte County in Indiana, as far as Kankakee, LaSalle, and Winnebago Counties in Illinois, and as far as Walworth and Racine Counties in Wisconsin) derive from an analysis of the Transearch database, a commodity flow database prepared by Global Insight. Further validation of this data with ground data is underway.
