About the Local Technical Assistance (LTA) Program
In October 2010, CMAP was awarded a Sustainable Communities Regional Planning grant by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to assist with the implementation of GO TO 2040. With funding from this grant, CMAP has launched the Local Technical Assistance (LTA) program, which involves providing assistance to communities across the Chicago metropolitan region to undertake planning projects that advance the principles of GO TO 2040. See below for the most recent update on project status, as well as links to several projects that are underway. Also, see a videos of an overview of the LTA program and "Planning Locally for Livability."
CMAP has initiated 102 local projects with local governments, nonprofits, and intergovernmental organizations to address local issues at the intersection of transportation, land use, and housing, including the natural environment, economic growth, and community development. For the latest on the LTA projects, download the LTA Program update (5-1-2013).
LTA Updates
Among recent highlights from CMAP's LTA program:
- The Village of New Lenox will host a public workshop for input on the draft U.S. Route 30 corridor implementation plan on April 29 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
- On May 8 and 11, the City of Berwyn and Berwyn Development Corporation will host public kickoff meetings to update the City's zoning ordinance. The update is recommended by the Berwyn Comprehensive Plan, which was unanimously adopted last fall.
- My Suburban Life covered the Riverside Village Board's recent adoption of its Central Business District plan.
- Streetsblog Chicago describes efforts to revitalize transportation in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood and mentions the Green Healthy Neighborhoods land use plan. The City of Chicago also announced recent public and private investments in Englewood and referenced the plan, which will go before the City's Plan Commission later this year.
