A New Comprehensive Plan for Round Lake Heights
Located in Lake County, Round Lake Heights contains a beautiful mix of natural spaces and residential neighborhoods supported by excellent institutional and civic amenities, ensuring a high quality of life for its residents, businesses, and visitors.
Building on these assets, CMAP's Local Technical Assistance (LTA) program is now helping the Village create a comprehensive plan that will provide a roadmap for reaching the community's long-term physical, socioeconomic, and cultural goals. The Round Lake Heights comprehensive plan will contain policies and action steps to help elected and appointed officials plan for the sustainable growth of the community. The plan will address a range of topics including, but not limited to, land use and development, economic growth, open space programming, infrastructure improvements, and image and identity.
The planning process will include three phases, with public input as a key component of each phase. The first phase will involve a thorough analysis of the existing conditions within the community using information gathered through one-on-one stakeholder interviews, steering committee meetings, focus group workshops, public meetings, review of previous studies, and available demographic and economic data. Phase two will focus on creating a vision for the future of Round Lake Heights by identifying goals and objectives based on findings from the Phase 1 analysis and a public visioning workshop. The final phase will combine efforts from previous phases to create the comprehensive plan document containing policies, programs, and actions steps to be undertaken in order to achieve the community's future vision for North Lake Heights.

Public Engagement
Public engagement throughout the planning process is an important part of creating a great comprehensive plan. On August 7, 2012, CMAP and the Village held a public kick-off meeting where residents discussed Round Lake Heights' greatest strengths and most pressing issues. On December 4, 2012, residents and stakeholders attended a visioning workshop at the Round Lake Middle School to discuss ways that the Village could tackle important issues and build off the community's assets. Recognizing Round Lake Heights' diverse nature, a Latino focus group meeting was held on December 10, 2012, engaging Latino families who now comprise 36% of the Round Lake Heights population. Public engagement will continue throughout the remainder of this process, including a public Open House for the draft plan to take place during the Annual Village Festival on Saturday, July 13.
