In partnership with the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, World Business Chicago, and the Illinois Science and Technology Coalition, CMAP has formed the innovation metrics working group to begin implementation of this priority. The working group first reviewed other models of innovation data collection and dissemination, including the San Diego based CONNECT innovation reports, and then discussed strategies with the Illinois Innovation Council's data committee. The group decided the first step should be to issue a monthly newsletter featuring a different metric each month.

The Illinois Innovation Index, with support from the Illinois Innovation Council, provides a short analysis of an innovation related data-set, and includes a narrative of why the data is important and what it reveals. Data is uploaded to MetroPulse and a new Innovation Dashboard is in development so users will be able to easily access a variety of innovation metrics and the working group can track measures overtime.
