Housing Supply and Affordability

Housing Supply and Affordability

Update: The Expanding Housing Choice ON TO 2050 strategy paper is now available, and your feedback is welcome.  Send your thoughts, ideas, or questions to ONTO2050@cmap.illinois.gov.  See our Partner Toolkit to share the report with colleagues.

A sustainable and successful region requires a range of housing options and improved housing affordability.

CMAP seeks to understand the housing needs of the region and provide effective guidance to increase the range of housing options due to the numerous benefits such diversity provides, including improving housing affordability. This has manifested in Homes for a Changing Region, done in partnership with the Metropolitan Planning Council, the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, and communities throughout metropolitan Chicago.

Working closely with our partners, ON TO 2050 will recommend clear strategies.

Building on the work of many regional stakeholders, CMAP is conducting research that supports, corresponds to, and refines the agency's previous work on housing stock diversity and housing affordability.

This research includes analysis of housing market variation that will allow the next plan to offer more geographic- and community specific recommendations for improving housing choice and affordability. These strategies will encourage and support more inclusive economic growth for the region, while also making our communities more resilient.

This is your plan.

Continual input by stakeholder organizations and individuals was vital to the development and implementation of GO TO 2040. From now through the next plan's adoption in October 2018 and beyond, CMAP will be engaging a broad cross-section of partners from across the region.
