Inclusive growth makes our region stronger.
A region that grows inclusively provides all of its residents access to opportunity to promote greater economic growth. To achieve this, disadvantaged communities must have the ability to access critical resources, such as convenient transportation options, job training, and affordable housing. Promoting a more inclusive model of economic growth not only improves quality of life for marginalized populations, it also strengthens the region as a whole, improving our economic competitiveness and fostering sustainable growth.
How ON TO 2050 can help further inclusive growth.
CMAP's core capabilities in land use, transportation, and economic development planning can promote inclusive growth. Building on these responsibilities and with input from public and private partners, ON TO 2050 will outline and evaluate potential strategies and policy directions to help achieve a more inclusive regional economy.
Developing strategies for an inclusive region.
CMAP is engaging a variety of stakeholders from across the region to craft regional, longterm strategies to understand and overcome the barriers to inclusive growth. Through 2017, CMAP is partnering with the Metropolitan Planning Council (MPC) to convene an advisory group of experts in transportation, economic development, housing, and other fields to understand how to create more sustainable and inclusive regional economic growth.
Simultaneously, CMAP is identifying the geography of vulnerability in the region and measuring disparities in access to economic opportunity. Additionally, the agency is examining peer regions to develop best practices and gather evidence on the economic benefits of an inclusive region. These analyses will help identify the strategies to create inclusive growth.
Resource group members
As part of its ongoing and iterative research process, CMAP has formed resource groups in order to engage subject-area experts to help shape the plan's initial exploratory analysis. The purpose of the Inclusive Growth resource group is to provide input and insights as CMAP develops a strategy paper on Inclusive Growth. Our hope is that this resource group will provide a framework for both members of the group and CMAP staff to inform each other's work.
Resource groups are designed to meet for several months and disband when the strategy paper is completed, at which time the members will be invited to join standing CMAP committees or continue to participate in ongoing activities related to the next comprehensive plan in other ways.
