More than 250 people from around the region attended the 2017 Technical Assistance Symposium on May 16. Elected officials, municipal and county planners and staff, community-based organizations, nonprofits, civic organizations, and consulting firms learned about the Call for Projects for the Local Technical Assistance (LTA) and RTA Community Planning programs. Access the full Symposium Program here.

The 2017 LTA and Community Planning Call for Projects is now closed. Please visit the 2017 Applications page for information on the newly selected projects.

LTA Background

With funding from a Sustainable Communities Regional Planning grant by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), CMAP initiated the Local Technical Assistance (LTA) program in 2010. The program involves providing assistance to communities across the Chicago metropolitan region to undertake planning projects that advance the principles of GO TO 2040. It is currently funded by the Federal Highway Administration, Federal Transit Administration, HUD, Economic Development Administration, Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois Attorney General, Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, and Chicago Community Trust. See below for the most recent update on project status, as well as links to several projects that are underway.  See videos of an overview of the LTA program and "Planning Locally for Livability." Select implementation highlights are also available in a GO TO 2040 case studies library.

CMAP announced 22 new LTA projects in October 2015. The fifth wave of projects through the LTA program emphasize implementation of past plans, such as updates of zoning and regulations, creation of capital improvement plans, and analysis of municipal review procedures.  For more information, review a press release and full list of the fifth round of LTA projects. More information on applications received and the approval process is archived on-line

CMAP has initiated more than 160 local projects with local governments, nonprofits, and intergovernmental organizations to address local issues at the intersection of transportation, land use, and housing, including the natural environment, economic growth, and community development. For the latest on the LTA projects, download the LTA Program update (5-11-16).
