A Lifestyle Corridor Plan for Antioch

A Lifestyle Corridor Plan for Antioch

Update: The plan was adopted in April 2014.

Located in northern Lake County between Chicago and Milwaukee, the Village of Antioch has grown from an area that produced lumber in the 1830s to a community with a robust business and residential core and a high quality of life for residents, businesses, and visitors.

Building on these valuable community assets, CMAP's Local Technical Assistance (LTA) program assisted the Village in planning for a lifestyle corridor – a bike and pedestrian greenway and trail system connecting various destinations in and around Antioch. The plan complements the community's long-term physical, socioeconomic, and cultural goals to better connect with the Chain O' Lakes and the Des Plaines River while coordinating with Lake County's regional planning objectives. The Antioch lifestyle corridor plan puts forth policies to help the Village and its residents support the development of a lifestyle corridor. The plan addresses a range of topics including but not limited to land use, open space, image and identity, and pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure.

The planning process will include three phases. The first phase involved a thorough analysis of the existing conditions within the community using information gathered through one-on-one stakeholder interviews, steering committee meetings, a public kick-off meeting, review of previous studies, and collection of maps and data. Phase two focused on creating strategies for Antioch's lifestyle corridor plan based on findings from the phase one analysis and public workshop. The final phase combined these efforts  to create the Lifestyle Corridor Plan document, which contains the policies, programs, and action steps intended to help the community achieve the future vision.
