A Plan for the Old Town Area of Carpentersville

Update: On July 10, 2012, the Village of Carpentersville Board of Trustees officially adopted the Carpentersville Old Town Plan, which is the product of a community planning process that began in September 2011.

The Village of Carpentersville's Old Town Area has many historic strengths and community assets that provide a high quality of life for its residents, shoppers, and employees.  Strategically situated within Dundee Township in Kane County, the Village is approximately 35 miles northwest of the City of Chicago. The Village's Old Town Area has seen a tremendous amount of reinvestment primarily through existing businesses. Priorities set in the Village's comprehensive plan recommended vibrant, mixed-use development for the Old Town Area.  CMAP's Local Technical Assistance (LTA) program helped Carpentersville draft a long-range plan that will guide the area's future growth and focus on implementation.

Public Engagement

The public had multiple opportunities to participate throughout this planning process.  In November, 2011, the public contributed during the first phase of the Old Town Area plan by attending the kick-off meeting to discuss issues that the plan should address. Participants also shared their ideas about how the Old Town Area should look in the future. The final plan was presented to the public at an Open House held at the Carpentersville Village Hall on Tuesday, February 7, 2012.  Nearly 100 attendees -- including elected officials, residents, and business owners - dropped by to review and comment on the draft Old Town Area plan's recommendations.
