Forest Preserves of Cook County Municipal Connection Case Studies

The Forest Preserve District of Cook County (FPDCC) established a series of case studies examining non-motorized trail connections with adjacent municipalities with support from the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning's (CMAP) Local Technical Assistance (LTA) program. This report highlights studies of locations where connections between FPDCC trails and local bicycle and pedestrian systems could be improved.

The examination of potential improvements and the recommendations contained within this report may lead to the future adoption of policies or standard approaches by the FPDCC, but that is not part of this specific project.  While the report includes brief discussion about issues at specific locations and potential solutions for identified gaps, it does not include specific infrastructure needs, cost estimates, or detailed recommendations. The purpose of this report is to look at the kinds of connectivity issues that may exist around FPDCC properties and to inform future policymaking or investment by the Forest Preserve. The report is not intended to be formally adopted and is meant for internal use by Forest Preserve staff.
