A Comprehensive Plan for Des Plaines

The City of Des Plaines, a community located in northern Cook County, desires a new Comprehensive Plan that provides long range planning guidance for the municipality. The last comprehensive plan was completed in 2007 and was primarily focused on providing basic direction for future land use and development patterns.  Des Plaines is looking for a new comprehensive plan that not only provides guidance on land use and development, but also on housing, economic development, transportation, and natural resources. For demographic information on the City, view the Community Data Snapshot.

With support from CMAP's Local Technical Assistance (LTA) program, this Comprehensive Plan will consist of five phases to be completed in approximately eighteen months. The first phase will involve an examination of previous planning efforts and an analysis of existing conditions. The second phase will focus on outreach to community stakeholders.  The third phase will include the development of key recommendations.  The fourth phase will focus on the creation of a draft plan.  The fifth phase will seek City adoption after final edits are collected through public comment.

Public Engagement

Public outreach and community engagement are essential to the creation of Des Plaines' Comprehensive Plan. There will be numerous opportunities for the public to provide input and participate throughout the planning process. The City of Des Plaines, in partnership with CMAP, will embark on a series of interviews, workshops, and meetings with various community stakeholders and residents from the area to solicit and incorporate local input to the planning process.
