Dixmoor Planning Priorities Project

UPDATE: Dixmoor's final Planning Priorities Report was approved by the Village Board of Trustees in March 2015.

The Village of Dixmoor is a tightly knit community with a significant industrial history in south Cook County. Located less than 20 miles from Chicago's Loop, Dixmoor enjoys proximity to the future interchange of Interstates 294 and 57, as well as to other major road and railway facilities. In order to improve its economic vitality and quality of life for its residents, the Village worked with LTA to prioritize the main issues it should address and to formulate a plan of action for the near future.

With support from CMAP's Local Technical Assistance (LTA) program, this planning priorities project reflects the diverse interests and needs across Dixmoor. Key themes of the resulting report will include infrastructure improvements; residential maintenance and rehabilitation; economic redevelopment; recreation and community development; and efficient governance. Overall, the project allows the Village to pursue funding sources and future planning endeavors to implement the report's recommendations.

This planning process consisted of three main phases.  The first phase assessed existing conditions in the Village, including stakeholder engagement. During the second phase, initial recommendations were created and vetted with Village staff and officials.  The third phase included report creation, Village feedback, and report adoption.

Public Engagement

Key community stakeholders have been engaged through spring 2014, and and advisory group including Village staff and elected officials weighed in throughout the planning process.
