Located in south Cook County, the Village of Lynwood is updating its comprehensive plan, which was originally adopted in 1970.  With Lynwood's close proximity to IL Route 394, I-80, I-94, I-294, US-30, and US-83, plan recommendations will build off of the Village's convenient access to the City of Chicago and other parts of the region.  A key transportation project is the extension of Joe Orr Road between IL Route 394 and the Illinois-Indiana border, which would directly connect Lynwood with the main street of Munster, Indiana. The extension would create a new intersection between Joe Orr Road and Glenwood-Dyer Road, in the center of Lynwood, and also offers the opportunity for new land use patterns in the community. The plan will also address the feasibility of establishing a town center at this intersection.  Other transportation projects to be included in the plan include a new bridge to lessen the impact of anticipated passenger service by the EJ&E rail lines, as well as the potential increase of services at the Lansing Municipal Airport.  The plan will also outline land use policies to lessen potential negative effects of growth while continuing to provide development opportunities and quality services in the community.
