A Subarea Plan for Morton Grove Industrial Areas

Update: the Village of Morton Grove Industrial Areas Plan was unanimously adopted by the Village Board of Trustess on November 10, 2014.

The Village of Morton Grove is an inner-ring suburb located northwest of the City of Chicago. The Village has two industrial areas which are home to several businesses.   Building upon previous planning studies, market analyses, existing conditions, and community input, CMAP's Local Technical Assistance (LTA) program is helping Morton Grove to draft an Industrial Areas Subarea plan. This plan will examine the industrial areas' relationship with the regional industrial market and the surrounding land uses, as well as provide guidance for the area's future growth and prosperity.

The process includes three phases.  The first phase includes an analysis of the area's existing conditions, as well as gathering initial public input regarding the issues and opportunities for the industrial area.  The second phase consists of creating a shared vision and outlining specific goals and recommendations necessary to achieve the vision.  The third phase is developing an implementation strategy that puts the goals and recommendations into action.

Public Engagement

The public will have several opportunities to participate in the planning process. CMAP and Village staff first held a public community meeting on June 26, 2012 to introduce the project.

Then a "Meet & Greet" between local, regional and state economic/business development partners and the Morton Grove manufacturing businses community was held on Thursday, July 11, 2013. This event was sponsored by Village or Morton Grove,  in conjunction with the Morton Grove Chamber of Commerce, CMAP, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and the Illinois Manufacturing Excellence Center. It gave manufacturing, production and related businesses within Morton Grove the opportunity to meet key staff and representatives from these agencies/organizations, find out about the various programs and services they offer, and provide  feedback on the opportunities and challenges which exist in the Morton Grove manufacturing districts.

The Village also hosted an Industrial Areas Meeting & Networking Breakfast on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 8:30AM at 8300 Lehigh Avenue, Morton Grove.  This meeting and networking breakfast will gave stakeholders the opportunity to review and comment on the draft Industrial Areas Plan, learn more about the newly launched Façade Improvement Program, and network with colleagues from other area businesses as well as Village staff.

All comments from public meetings and other outreach activities have been integrated into the draft plan. The draft plan was presented to the Village of Morton Grove Board of Trustees for their review on Monday, October 27. The draft plan awaits second reading by the Board before it is adopted.

On November 10, 2014, the Village Board of Trustees unanimously adopted the Village of Morton Grove Industrial Areas Plan.
