Niles Arterial Rapid Transit Plan
In 2012, the Village applied to CMAP for assistance to develop a plan to promote an environmentally-friendly, multi-modal transportation system that will build off of the existing Comprehensive Plan, the Arterial Rapid Transit (ART) Plan, and the Village's recently completed Environmental Action Plan. The multi-modal transportation project consists of two components, one a Village-wide bicycle and pedestrian plan and another which examines the Milwaukee Avenue corridor. The second component will emphasize ways in which the Village can improve access to the corridor while enhancing and supporting Pace's ART service within it. The plan seeks to develop a comprehensive active transportation network that integrates with the existing roadway and transit networks, enhances awareness of existing and planned transportation service, and implements policies and programs supportive of the multi-modal transportation network.
