On October 8, 2013 the Round Lake Heights Village Board unanimously adopted a new comprehensive plan. The Round Lake Heights Comprehensive Plan provides a framework to make informed investment decisions to address current issues and reach long term goals.Located in Lake County, Round Lake Heights contains a beautiful mix of natural spaces andresidential neighborhoods supported by excellent institutional and civic amenities, ensuring a high quality of life for its residents, businesses, and visitors.
Building on these assets, CMAP's Local Technical Assistance (LTA) program assisted the Village in creating a comprehensive plan that will serve as a roadmap for reaching the community's long-term physical, socioeconomic, and cultural goals. The Round Lake Heights comprehensive plan contains policies and action steps to help elected and appointed officials plan for the sustainable growth of the community. The plan address a range of topics including, but not limited to, land use and development, economic growth, open space programming, infrastructure improvements, and image and identity.
The planning process included three phases, with public input as a key component of each phase. The first phase involved a thorough analysis of the existing conditions within the community using information gathered through one-on-one stakeholder interviews, steering committee meetings, focus group workshops, public meetings, review of previous studies, and available demographic and economic data. Phase two focused on creating a vision for the future of Round Lake Heights by identifying goals and objectives based on findings from the Phase one analysis and a public visioning workshop. The final phase combined the efforts from the previous phases to create the Village's comprehensive plan, which contains policies, programs, and actions steps to be undertaken in order to achieve the community's future vision for Round Lake Heights.
