Village of Riverside planning for bikes

Bike Route Sign 2For the Village of Riverside, 2010 is the “year of the bicycle”, according to an article in the Riverside/Brookfield Landmark. The Village Sustainability Council produced a draft Bike Map, which outlines new paths to connect to both existing Village routes and to the regional Salt Creek Trail.

The author of the article, Tom Jacobs, calls on the Village of Riverside “to connect with neighboring communities and their bike paths, and, in a larger sense, … to demonstrate our willingness to play an active role in the growing regional network of sustainable Transportation.”

Riverside correctly sees its bike plan as a way to achieve goals and objectives in sustainability, safety, Transportation access and mobility, public health, and overall livability. Jacobs writes that Riverside residents should understand themselves “not primarily as owners, but rather as guests in a very special place that is only temporarily entrusted to our care. We need to be implementing things today that will be a great asset to the people who will, for their short while, inhabit our village in the future.”
