Transportation News

EOWA update.  House Joint Resolution 9, which authorizes the Illinois Tollway to build the Elgin O'Hare Western Access (EOWA) project, was adopted last week. The EOWA is one of five new major capital projects recommended in GO TO 2040.

Performance-based funding.  The Daily Herald's Marni Pyke described CMAP proposal for "performance-based funding" of highway and bridge projects in Illinois.  As described in our new microsite, improved transparency and data-based decision making are needed to ensure that transportation investments yield broader economic and quality-of-life benefits.  The CMAP Policy Updates blog provides an overview, including a compendium of related CMAP research and analysis.

Congestion pricing campaign. Last week the Will County Governmental League became the latest group to pass a resolution in support of congestion pricing.  To support CMAP's efforts on this issue, please contact Erin Aleman (312-386-8816 or ealeman@cmap.illinois.gov).

Divvy bike share. Chicago's new bike share program Divvy is now accepting members -- a limited number of "founding memberships" are currently available.  The bike share program, which is partially funded through CMAP's Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement (CMAQ) program, has been covered by Crain's Chicago Business, the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Sun-Times, and Streetsblog this week. 

CMAQ in the news.  The Active Transportation Alliance's spring newsletter highlighted the extension of the North Branch Trail, which is partially funded through CMAQ.  The newsletter also features a summary of their February summit, where I spoke about transit funding.

CMAP promotes a regional transportation system that is safe, efficient, and accessible while sustaining the region's vision related to the natural environment, economic and community development, social equity, and public health.	Conformity Analysis View minutes and agenda for Tier II Consultation. As part of the transportation planning and programming process, CMAP staff evaluates the impact of proposed transportation activities on the region's air quality.
Bicycle and Pedestrian Issues View  minutes and agenda for the Bike and Pedestrian Task Force. A good walking and bicycling environment is essential for our region.  CMAP is working with its partners to improve conditions for pedestrians and bicyclists throughout the region.	Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement (CMAQ) Project Selection Committee View the minutes and agenda for the CMAQ project selection committee. The committee provides overall guidance for the development of the CMAQ program for Northeastern Illinois.

Congestion Management Process (CMP) Learn how the CMP incorporates extensive monitoring of the transportation network through the use of performance measures, many of which are also tracked as regional indicators.	Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) CMAP promotes the use of ITS, including a wide range of technologies that improve the movement of people and goods.
Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement (CMAQ) The CMAQ Program is a federally-funded program of surface transportation improvements designed to improve air quality and mitigate congestion.	Traffic Projections For transportation implementing agencies, CMAP develops small-area traffic projections based on our most recent regional travel-demand analysis.
Construction Planning CMAP tracks construction planning  in Northeastern Illinois.	Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) The Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) is metropolitan Chicago's agenda of surface transportation projects. The TIP lists all federally funded projects and regionally significant, non-federally funded projects programmed for implementation in the next four years.
