A recent article in Outside Magazine looks at how – and why – cities are working to promote active lifestyles for residents.  Among the primary strategies employed is that of constructing more and better trails, parks, and bikeway networks.  The reason behind the large increase in such projects is the intense competition between cities and the need to attract and retain residents.  Cities are focusing on bike-friendliness as a primary means of being – and being known as – a place where it is easy, commonplace, and fun to live a healthy and active life.
