CMAP Weekly Update, 3-9-18

CMAP meetings
The CMAP Board will meet at 9:30 a.m. next Wednesday, March 14. The Planning and Programming coordinating committee meetings will happen at 8:00 a.m. Yesterday the MPO Policy Committee met, with an agenda that included approval of the Semi-Annual GO TO 2040/TIP Conformity Analysis & TIP Amendment and an overview of the draft ON TO 2050 mobility recommendations.

White House budget proposal
A new CMAP Policy Update analyzes potential effects of the Trump administration's fiscal year 2019 budget proposal on housing, environment, economic development, and data collection programs in northeastern Illinois. It would cut a number of important programs that help our region reach its goals for housing choice, land conservation, water resource management, and economic innovation.

Improving municipal capacity
A Metropolitan Planning Council (MPC) blog post highlights the importance of implementing recommendations in the ON TO 2050 Municipal Capacity strategy paper recently released by CMAP and MPC. Josh Ellis, vice president at MPC, explains how service sharing and formal agreements can help metropolitan Chicago’s 284 municipalities coordinate to meet residents’ needs and achieve shared economic development goals.

FLIP applications open
The CMAP Future Leaders in Planning (FLIP) 2018 application is now available. FLIP is celebrating its tenth anniversary and is partnering with the Chicago Architecture Foundation to further enhance the week-long program for high school students (entering ninth-twelfth grades as of fall 2018). Visit the program website, and please share this opportunity with young people across the metropolitan region.
