CMAP happenings

Take the household travel survey
The Daily Herald, NBC Chicago, and WBBM Newsradio covered the My Daily Travel survey, which asks households in northeastern Illinois to report how they get from place to place in our region. The survey helps ensure that computer models of traffic flow are accurate so transportation investments can be based on sound analysis. It is also required by federal regulations, and doing the survey keeps the region eligible for federal transportation funding. Sign up at www.mydailytravel.com/cmap or by calling 1-855-981-7286 to sign up by phone -- and we encourage Weekly readers to help us spread the word! Households that complete the survey will earn $50.

LTA and Community Planning Call for Projects
The 2018 Call for Projects for the CMAP Local Technical Assistance (LTA) and RTA Community Planning programs is open, with applications due by Friday, October 26. Applications, a program guide, and an FAQ are available on both the RTA and CMAP websites.

Fox River Corridor Plan feedback
The draft Fox River Corridor Plan, being developed with assistance from the CMAP LTA program, is now available for review. Submit feedback to Kate Evasic (kevasic@cmap.illinois.gov) by Thursday, September 20.

Around the region

Metra board action
On Wednesday, the board of Metra voted not to approve a potential fare increase, which might necessitate service cuts. In an official statement, chairman Norm Carlson said: “We ask our passengers and our elected leaders to join with us to tell our story to members of the state Legislature. That story is very simple: Metra needs a sustained capital program to maintain its existing service levels in the 2020s. Otherwise, drastic changes in service levels may be needed to shrink to a size that existing resources can sustain.” Read more in the Chicago Tribune, Sun-Times, Daily Herald, and Chicago Transportation Journal.
