In April 2012, the District of Columbia Department of Transportation completed and published its evaluation of three innovative bicycle facilities installed at three locations in northwest D.C. in 2010:

• A two-way cycle track on 15th Street
• Buffered bicycle lanes in the center median of Pennsylvania Avenue
• Bicycle boxes, bicycle signals, and contra-flow bicycle lanes at the six-leg intersection of New Hampshire Avenue NW, U Street NW, and 16^th Street NW.                       

The facilities were designed to provide increased safety, comfort, and convenience for cyclists.  Facilities include dedicated road space, signal control, and signs and pavement markings.  Overall, the analysis found that the bicycle treatments improved conditions for cycling without negatively impacting other modes in the vicinity of the investment.
