The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently released two new fact sheets summarizing bicycle and pedestrian crash data for 2011.  The fact sheets present and analyze 2011 bicyclist and pedestrian crash data at the national level and compare it to previous years.  The factsheets can be accessed and downloaded through the "Bicycles" and the "Pedestrians" links on NHTSA's "Driving Safety" webpage.

Nationwide, both pedestrian and bicyclist fatalities rose compared to 2010.  Bicyclist fatalities, which accounted for 2.1 percent of all traffic fatalities in 2011, increased by 9 percent.  Pedestrian fatalities, which accounted for 14 percent of all traffic fatalities in 2011, grew by 3 percent.
