First Off...


CMAP meetings. The CMAP Board will meet at 9:30 a.m. next Wednesday, January 9, 2013. The Regional Coordinating Committee will meet prior to the Board at 8:00 a.m. And the MPO Policy Committee will meet the following day at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 10.

Congestion pricing campaign. We are seeking partners to support our agency's congestion pricing campaign by writing to Governor Quinn, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), and the Illinois Tollway to emphasize the need to implement congestion pricing for five GO TO 2040 expressway projects. To be part of that effort, please contact CMAP principal planner Erin Aleman (312-386-8816 or ealeman@cmap.illinois.gov).
 

Other News and Announcements

LTA updates. The Village of Algonquin is accepting public comments on draft recommendations for its downtown plan through January 18. The plan's development is funded with a grant through our Local Technical Assistance (LTA) program. The Daily Herald described the Village of Lakemoor's draft comprehensive plan, which is another LTA project. A January update for all LTA projects is now available at www.cmap.illinois.gov/lta.

TIFIA workshop. The Federal Highway Administration is holding a Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (TIFIA) workshop on January 23 at 8:00 a.m. in CMAP's offices (233 S. Wacker Drive, Suite 800, Chicago). TIFIA provides federal credit assistance to public agencies for transportation projects of national and regional significance. At a minimum, projects must cost $50 million. RSVP by January 18 to Jeff Blais (jeff.blais@dot.gov or 217-492-4610).

IDOT safety website. IDOT launched a new safety website. Learn more in this video.

Local food. WBEZ described new applications for the $10 million Illinois Fresh Food Fund. Learn more about the fund and other local food system resources at www.cmap.illinois.gov/food/resources.

Policy Updates. Our policy blog has a new post about transportation and housing provisions in the federal bill passed to avert the "fiscal cliff."

Soles and Spokes. CMAP’s bike-ped planning blog posted the Association for Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals' (APBP) 2013 schedule for its monthly professional development webinar series. The one-hour webinars take place the third Wednesday of each month and cover a wide-variety of non-motorized transportation topics.
 

Reminders

CMAQ Program call for projects. CMAP is currently accepting applications for CMAQ Program. The deadline to submit all applications to CMAP is February 8, 2013. Visit our main CMAQ page for more details. Local sponsors should direct questions to their planning liaison, and all other sponsors should contact Doug Ferguson (dferguson@cmap.illinois.gov).

New Red Line extension report, video. A new "livability report," video, brochure, and maps gallery available at cmap.illinois.gov/red-line highlight the quality of life benefits of extending the CTA Red Line south to 130th Street as recommended by GO TO 2040. These materials were developed through CMAP's LTA program in collaboration with the Developing Communities Project (DCP) and the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). The report was featured on WBEZ and Next City.


RTA strategic plan. The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) is updating the region’s Transit Strategic Plan, which will guide decision making over the next five years. Through January 25, 2013, you can provide input by taking a 10-minute survey.

EI2 rebates. Energy Impact Illinois (EI2) is offering rebates up to $1,750 (an estimated 70-percent cost savings) for upgrades you can make to improve the comfort of your home.
