In May 2014, the U.S. Census Bureau issued an American Community Survey (ACS) report on bicycling and walking to work in the U.S.  The report uses the five-year ACS data to look at trends in non-motorized commuting at the national, state, and local levels.  The report also presents national data on commute travel mode by select social and economic characteristics.  The ACS data reveals that the number of U.S. workers who traveled to work by bicycle increased from about 488,000 in 2000 to about 786,000 in 2008-12.
