CMAP's Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) is a short-term implementation tool for the GO TO 2040 comprehensive regional plan and includes both projects expected to receive federal funding and regionally significant projects funded by non-federal sources. A five-year agenda of surface transportation projects throughout northeastern Illinois, the TIP is also a tool for communication between different levels of government and the public.

The TIP tracks a large numbers of projects across all seven counties that are continually updated and modified. The CMAP Transportation Committee has released an amendment and cover memo of such modifications in accordance with GO TO 2040's and the TIP's semi-annual air quality conformity analysis policy. The amendment would add two projects that must be tested for air quality conformity, and a handful of modifications to existing projects such as changing completion year. As part of the process of submitting and approving TIP revisions, the amendments are open for public comment via mail, e-mail, or phone (312-454-0400) through August 17, 2015.
