The Village of Beach Park is a lakefront community in northeastern Lake County, located 47 miles north of downtown Chicago. Beach Park is approximately 7 square miles in area and has a population of 13,638. For demographic information about the Village, view the Community Data Snapshot.

Since its incorporation in 1989, the Village leadership has strived to maintain a high quality of life for residents and capitalize on unique opportunities provided by the lakefront. In order to gain a better understanding of critical issues faced by community stakeholders and identify shorter-term actions to help tackle them, the Village is underwent a focused planning prioritization process. This project is supported through CMAP's Local Technical Assistance (LTA) program.

The planning process consisted of three phases completed over approximately twelve months. The first phase involved an analysis of existing conditions, using information and public input gathered by CMAP staff in collaboration with the Village. This analysis was summarized in a memo and served as the foundation for future phases. During the second phase, initial recommendations were created and vetted with Village staff and officials. The final phase included the creation of a consensus-based planning priorities report with near-term strategies for the Village's leadership and appointed officials.
