Six communities throughout northeast Illinois are working with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) as part of the first Capital Improvement Program. These six-month projects are aimed at providing meaningful and effective technical assistance to communities.
The Capital Improvement Program technical assistance is aimed at building staff capacity to develop a capital improvement program. A capital improvement program, also referred to as a capital improvement (or facilities) plan, is a plan implementation technique that involves prioritizing and scheduling investments in public facilities and infrastructure over a multi-year period. In addition to providing capital improvement program best practices, project activities address project identification, development, and funding.
The project includes a series of interactive training workshops to provide resources and develop staff skills and knowledge to develop a capital improvement program. The participating communities are Berwyn, Burlington, Calumet Park, Harvard, Steger, and Thornton.
