Elgin O'Hare Area Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan

Update: Plan is complete.  Please see links to the plan document and executive summary.

DuPage County and the County's Division of Transportation, with support from the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning through its Local Technical Assistance program, is planning for bicycle and pedestrian improvements in the Elgin-O'Hare Expressway (IL 390) region. In doing so, this plan will increase connectivity with existing bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, improve bicycle and pedestrian access to transit and other key destinations, and enhance the overall quality of life in nearby communities. The approximately 70-square-mile study area includes ten municipalities, two counties, and multiple jurisdictions, including several transportation agencies responsible for the facilities and services used by travelers. The communities in this region are currently experiencing one of the biggest changes in decades with the construction of the Elgin-O'Hare Expressway. With such a massive infrastructure project underway, this plan will seek to improve bicycle and pedestrian connections throughout the study area.

Public Engagement

Public outreach and engagement of key stakeholders are essential to the creation of Elgin O'Hare Area Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan. Residents, officials and staff from communities within the study area, and stakeholders will have multiple opportunities to participate in the process and give feedback, including an online survey and interactive map.  The consultant team will conduct stakeholder interviews and focus group meetings to gather input. Stay up-to-date about future meetings by visiting the project webpage, "Share Your Ideas."
