Women face serious challenges during COVID-19 recession

Women have been vulnerable to the economic impacts of COVID-19. In Illinois and across the nation, women have become unemployed or dropped out of the workforce at higher rates than men. Understanding the factors at play is critical to developing strategies for a more equitable recovery. Read more.

Join CMAP for an International Women's Day discussion

On Monday, March 8, join CMAP at 11:00 a.m. for a roundtable discussion about how COVID-19 exacerbated economic challenges for the region's women and how we can address those challenges.

 

Panelists include U.S. Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (Illinois' 14th District), Dr. Helene Gayle (Chicago Community Trust), Karen Freeman-Wilson (Chicago Urban League), and Noreen Sugrue (Latino Policy Forum). Erin Aleman, CMAP executive director, will moderate the discussion.

Governor's budget proposal highlights priorities and continued pandemic impacts

CMAP analyzed Governor J.B. Pritzker's budget proposal and the priorities of ON TO 2050, the region's long-range plan. The budget request includes investments and programs that address mobility, water management, and resources for local governments. CMAP explores what the proposal could mean for northeastern Illinois. Learn more.

Fostering neighborhood-driven improvement on Chicago's South Side

Through our Local Technical Assistance program, CMAP worked with the Endeleo Institute to create a planning priorities report for 95th Street in Chicago's Washington Heights neighborhood. The MacArthur Foundation recently profiled the project and how Endeleo has been implementing the recommendations.

Applications close soon for flooding, stormwater programs

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago seeks applications from local government organizations to address flooding and drainage problems through its Flood-Prone Property Acquisition Program and Stormwater Partnership Program. Applications close Friday, March 12.
