CMAP releases new Community Data Snapshots

CMAP has refreshed its Community Data Snapshot (CDS) library with updated and original data to help municipalities, researchers, and the public track progress and make informed decisions about their communities. These data-rich snapshots -- one for each of the region’s 284 municipalities, 77 Chicago Community Areas, and seven counties -- summarize demographics, housing, employment, transportation habits, and other key details using U.S. Census, CMAP research, and other data sources.

CMAP has added original data to the snapshots to help communities put their data in context with ON TO 2050 and its goals in areas such as walkability, park access, and transit availability. Each CDS now includes data on 13 local ON TO 2050 indicators that show how each community is doing compared to both the region today and the long-term regional targets outlined in the plan. These data points will continue to be updated each year to show progress toward the targets set in ON TO 2050.

Save the date for CMAP fall event series

Join CMAP this fall for a series of events that will connect local leaders and provide expert advice about how ON TO 2050 can make a difference in your community.

Each event will help you make meaningful connections with other communities and collaborate on some of our region’s toughest issues. A resource fair with opportunities and educational materials from CMAP's local and regional partners will also be available at each event. The Small Plans, Big Ideas event series will coincide with the 2019 joint call for projects for the CMAP Local Technical Assistance (LTA) and Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) Community Planning programs. Register today and check back for more information on each event.

Greenest Region Compact Framework workshops

The Metropolitan Mayors Caucus is hosting two workshops to show communities how to apply the Greenest Region Compact (GRC). The GRC is a tool that can help communities assess their sustainability efforts and guide planning. The first workshop will be on Thursday, July 18, at the Highland Park Fire Department (1130 Central Ave., Highland Park) and the second will be on Tuesday, August 6, at the Grayslake Village Hall (10 S. Seymour, Grayslake). Both workshops are from 10:00 a.m. to noon.

Public comment period on local Surface Transportation Program methodologies

Throughout the summer, the local Councils of Mayors and City of Chicago will be seeking public comment on proposed methodologies for selecting local projects to be funded through the Surface Transportation Program. Each council will adopt a methodology that incorporates performance-based programming and regional planning factors by September 30, 2019.

CMAP and the Councils will publicize each opportunity for public comment. Currently the DuPage, North Central, and Will councils are inviting comments. Details can be found here.
