How to engage Latinx communities during COVID-19

Studies have shown that Latinx communities have a higher rate of confirmed COVID-19 cases than any other racial group, in part, due to employment and housing patterns. Community leaders must understand these unique challenges and respond to the specific needs of the people most impacted by the pandemic.

CMAP presenting at upcoming American Planning Association conference

Are you attending the American Planning Association - Illinois State Conference? Be sure to check out the panels featuring CMAP's planners and policy experts. Throughout the event, CMAP staff will speak at four different sessions:

  1. Climate change is here. Now how do we plan for it?

  2. Improving local development incentives: A guide for local governments

  3. Innovative multi-agency freight transportation planning and investment in the Chicago region: Three ongoing regional initiatives

  4. A fascinating place without a name: How an unincorporated area has emerged as one of Chicagoland’s leading immigrant gateways.

In addition, CMAP senior planner Jake Seid, president of the chapter, will give an opening talk and state of the chapter address.

The CMAP Board met on Wednesday, September 9, to discuss the agency's developing equity vision and framework and our ideas for a more equitable COVID-19 mobility recovery, among other items. You can watch a recording of the meeting on YouTube. The board will meet next on Wednesday, October 14, with the MPO Policy Committee.

Learn the state of the Illinois International Port District

Join the executive director of the Illinois International Port District (IIPD), Clayton Harris III, who will present an overview of the IIPD, review what has been happening at the port over the last year, and discuss goals and opportunities for the future. Register for the third annual State of the Port event, held virtually, on Thursday, September 24.

We are currently working with IIPD to develop a master plan to guide how the port develops through 2050.
